01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Those who have tried the shokado bento remember its variety of dishes—and the squid sashimi in particular. One reviewer, who said they came from an area known for squid fishing, recalled being impressed by it; their children were surprised, too. The bento is described as a selection of dishes made with seasonal ingredients, including local vegetables from Kamigamo, served with rice, soup and a dessert. Another diner wrote that the tempura arrived later, freshly fried, giving the meal an unhurried sense of anticipation.
For a lighter lunch, the tenshin bento comes with nyumen—warm somen noodles in broth—and dessert. One diner who had it for lunch spoke positively about the way the dishes were prepared. For a more substantial meal, kaiseki courses move from an appetiser and sashimi to soup, an oshinogi course, and a grilled dish. The listed courses range from 7,700 yen to 16,500 yen, with the number of appetisers and the inclusion of fried dishes, vinegared dishes or a small side dish varying by course. The simmered dish may be replaced by a steamed dish or another preparation, and the menu can change according to ingredient availability, so it is worth checking the details before visiting.
Private rooms make Noshi an option for family meals and gatherings. A children’s bento is also available, served in a tiered box with rice, nyumen and dessert. Reservations are recommended for both lunch and dinner, so it is best to plan ahead based on your party size and the meal you have in mind.
